Text from the accompanying essay
“Against Simultaneity”
written by Camille Washington, Curatorial Fellow, Walker Art Center.
…...... The small triptych of outlined children delicately mounted in wooden embroidery rings by Karin Bos is a striking set of illustrations that hint at more than what appears. The presentation, which all but begs for a closer examination of the works, gives the impression of something vaguely nostalgic and familiar but that is ultimately more mysterious. Framed by apparatuses used to hold undulating needlepoint canvases taut, the smoothness of the silk and ink are curious. Surely the tension they are meant to support can be found elsewhere. Bos confuses the ornamental, the graphical and the surreal in a way that is amplified by the texture and repurposing of materials.
